Verify Your ESTA Status

You can verify your ESTA status or update it. You can check your travel authorization to the US for many reasons. This page outlines several reasons to verify and check your ESTA status. Before you travel to the United States, it is essential to check the expiration date and retrieve your authorization number. You will need to reapply if your ESTA (or passport) has expired before you can enter the USA. Verify the status of your ESTA travel authorization if:

If your travel authorization has expired and you wish to visit the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), you must reapply to ESTA. Your travel authorization cannot be extended. Two-year validity is required for travel authorizations to visit the USA. Your new approval will automatically replace your previous appointment if you apply for a new ESTA.

How do you update or change the information in an ESTA request submission?

All fields can be updated before you click Submit. This excludes passport-related information. Once you have submitted your application and paid for it, you can’t change any of these fields.

How can I check my ESTA status?

Swiss citizens and citizens of other countries that have waived visa requirements should be able to verify their ESTA status immediately. If it isn’t, you will be able to verify the status of your application within 72 hours. There are three main statuses available for an ESTA application:

Your travel authorization has been issued. Visa Waiver Program permits you to travel to the United States. A confirmation of your application will be sent to you. Why was my ESTA refused?

Anyone who is a US citizen, regardless of whether they are a Swiss citizen (or a citizen from another country that does not require visas), will need travel authorization from ESTA. You must ensure that you correctly fill out the ESTA form to avoid delays and rejections. Many people think they are perfect, but it is the main reason why US border security officers refuse travel authorizations. Citizens and passport holders of visa-exempt countries such as Switzerland must apply for ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) before traveling to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. This regulation has been in force since January 12, 2009. ESTA is an electronic system for travel authorization that improves security and allows the American government to keep the visa-free program. More than 99 percent were granted an ESTA.

How to correctly complete your ESTA Application

It must be used in conjunction with the National Identification Number. To be eligible for an ESTA application, applicants must declare that they don't have a valid ID card.

If you hold dual citizenship, double-check your citizenship information. To apply, you don't need a passport valid in the country of dual citizenship. The application must still be filled out with your country name. If the passenger does not have a passport, they should not apply for another.
A previously approved ESTA flight itinerary cannot be modified. You will not be allowed to change your departure/arrival port on your return to the US. You can change your US address using your existing ESTA.

Your ESTA travel authorization is valid for two years even if you don’t travel to the United States during your application dates. During the 2-year validity, your ESTA can be used for multiple trips.

Can I renew my ESTA?

It is not possible to renew an ESTA. If your travel authorization has expired or changes have been made to your passport, you must submit a new application. Travel authorizations to the U.S. are generally valid for two years.

Can I check or update my ESTA?

It is possible to check and update your ESTA online. The information to update online includes your email and visiting address in the United States. You can check the status of your travel authorization at any time. Using a private company to help locate and retrieve your ESTA is optional.

What should I do if the information on my passport has changed?

If your passport has expired and your passport information has changed, you must reapply for your ESTA authorization. The same fee will apply if you submit your application for review and processing using our company.

How can applicants correct a mistake on their ESTA application?

Any mistakes or changes can be made on all ESTA applications before filing them on the official US government website. Once an application is submitted, the only personal data available to amend is the email on file and visiting address in the United States. Any other ESTA changes require filing a new application along with payment. My travel authorization is valid for travel to the United States but will expire before I depart the U.S. for home. Do I need to apply for a new one before my trip? You can still use your current US travel authorization for your complete trip. Visa Waiver program regulations require that the travel authorization be valid for your date of arrival in the United States. Still, you can depart the United States on schedule even if your ESTA authorization has expired.
